For Chinese travellers, the distinction matters: Freiburg im Breisgau is in southwest Germany. Fribourg/Freiburg in Switzerland is a different place.

A very good half day to full day stop

Old town and Minster

The core is clear: the Minster, Münsterplatz, lanes, Bächle channels and small shops in the old town. It is easy to explore on foot.

Schlossberg is worth it

With enough time, go up to Schlossberg. The view over Freiburg makes the city much easier to understand.

Easy from Switzerland

From Basel, Freiburg is very close. From Zurich it also works as a longer day trip or a useful stopover.
