Background

Why I built Wanouzhou

Wanouzhou is not a travel agency and not a visa service. It is an independently written guide to Europe. For travellers coming from China to Europe for the first time, the most important questions are often very practical: where to stay, how European trains work, when buses make sense, how to get mobile data, and what Schengen, the EU and Switzerland mean in everyday travel.

I grew up near Munich and later moved to Switzerland. Southern Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Sweden are the European regions I know best and can explain most clearly. A first trip to Europe does not always need a complicated itinerary. It needs clear orientation on location, transport, prices and the small differences that can surprise visitors from China.

Since 2024, after visa free entry to China became possible for me, I have travelled to China five times. These trips helped me get to know and appreciate Chinese culture. They also reminded me how confusing a first trip to a very different country can be. Often the hard part is not the famous sight itself, but tickets, payment, hotels, language, mobile data and orientation.

On my first trips to China, Trip.com was particularly useful for hotels, travel arrangements and train tickets, before I had fully understood WeChat Pay and Alipay. Wanouzhou is the reverse idea: a practical guide for Chinese travellers who want to experience Europe independently for the first time.

The focus is on hotels, trains, long-distance buses, eSIM, visa topics and the European regions I know well. If Wanouzhou helps travellers plan their first trip to Europe with less uncertainty, it has done its job.

Some hotel, train, eSIM and travel product links on this website are affiliate links. If you book through them, I may receive a small commission. Using a link on this website does not increase the price; the final price is always the one shown by the booking platform.
