Where to stay in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has numerous boutique hotels as well as some hotels belonging to Western chains. The boutique hotels are generally inexpensive. In my experience, however, their standard is rather middling and inconsistent. They are not directly comparable to a Chinese chain such as Vienna Hotels.

Look closely at the reviews and do not rely only on the overall score. Read individual accounts too and, where possible, form your own first-hand impression.

So far, I have not come across any hotels belonging to Chinese hotel chains in Azerbaijan.

The mattresses in the boutique hotels I stayed at in Azerbaijan were mostly firm, much like those I am used to in China.

I stayed at Old Baku Boutique Hotel and Nemi Boutique Hotel. My experiences described above apply to both.

They were the two highest-rated boutique hotels I had found during my search. In my view, the ratings more or less matched my experience on the ground.
